In support of our productive partnership with Little Dreamers, the FCVic Special Projects Team were delighted to attend the annual trivia night fundraiser on Saturday 13 May at St Kilda Town Hall.
Money raised from the event funds young carer respite camps and a range of other fabulously positive support activities. During the evening we heard personal stories from young people sharing their life-changing experiences meeting and connecting with other young carers with similar challenges. There are an estimated 250,000 young carers nationally, and financial vulnerability for young carers and their families is a key issue.
FCVic survived three gruelling rounds of trivia questions – we didn’t win but didn’t cover ourselves in shame either! We also hosted a popular badge-making activity at the event – handy for those who had forgotten it was Mothers Day the following day! We also shared flyers which may be of interest to DA readers as well –
- Julie and the Debt Monster – QR codes to podcasts of all seven episodes written and spoken by Bella Walker, following Julie’s experiences navigating life and money. Julie contends with a furry ‘debt monster’ who lurks through each episode.
- Money Explorer – links to our interactive space-based guide to the financial universe, or Moneyverse – launching shortly and showcasing at our Festival of Ideas event on 21 June.
The Julie and the Debt Monster stories, along with Money Explorer, are also included in our Libraries Outreach resources which are being featured at the upcoming Festival of Ideas event, on June 21st. This will be a unique chance to see all the resources in action! Please register to secure your place.
