Last Friday, I had the privilege of attending the launch of the Flood Insurance Guide, a vital resource developed by Maribyrnong City Council and GenWest, with contributions from FCVic, CoHealth, Consumer Action Law Centre, Disaster Legal Help, Westjustice, and the Australian Red Cross.
The guide is a community-led initiative designed to provide clear, accessible information to help people prepare for and respond to flood events. It reflects the lived experiences of those affected by the October 2022 floods, offering comprehensive guidance on choosing the right insurance, making a claim, and navigating the dispute process.
FCVic contributed to Section 1, Why and how should I take out insurance?, underscoring the importance of financial preparedness in disaster recovery. This guide is an invaluable tool not just for Victorians but for all Australians living in flood-prone areas. It should be an essential part of any household’s important documents pack.
The Maribyrnong community’s resilience and dedication in developing this resource are commendable. Special recognition goes to the Maribyrnong Community Recovery Committee and GenWest for their leadership in bringing this project to fruition. In the face of adversity, this community has created a resource that will support countless others in navigating flood recovery.
