The partnership between FCVic and Social Security Rights Victoria (SSRV), the Integrated Services Project (ISP), aims to improve client outcomes through financial counsellors and social security lawyers working together more effectively.
This month we’d like to introduce Eloise Cox, who authored this month\’s update along with Dermott and Graeme. Eloise has joined the ISP team as a second community lawyer, doubling our legal resources for the project. Our plan is to use the extra resources to amplify what we can do with the project, and we’ll have more news about this over the coming months. Eloise comes to us from South-East Monash Legal Service, where her practice focus was assisting vulnerable clients with family violence and tenancy matters, issues many of our clients experience in addition to Centrelink problems.
FCVic Conference
SSRV was attended the FCVic Conference this year. Dermott, Eloise and Graeme were accompanied by SSRV’s longest serving team member Peter Horbury and acting principal lawyer John Berrill. We had a stand setup to chat to financial counsellors, and Eloise and Dermott contributed to the conference activities with Eloise presenting at the Fast and Furious whip around, and Dermott running breakout sessions on the Disability Support Pension (DSP).
It was great to see everyone. While Dermott has been with SSRV for several years now, this was really her first opportunity to meet and engage with the sector in person, and it was definitely refreshing to be able to do so. For Eloise, there couldn’t have been a more perfect introduction to the sector.
Drawing on her experience from the DSP Help Project she was previously involved in, Dermott’s DSP sessions went well, and she’d particularly like to thank everyone who came along and contributed to the conversations. If anyone would like the slides from those presentations, or would just like to chat about the content, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
CPD Sessions
Our next CPD session is scheduled for Thursday, 27 October. We’ll be covering Centrelink Overpayments and Debts, and doing a bit of a deep dive into how these come about and how they can be addressed. Members can click here to read more and register. Please reach out to us directly if you’d like to chat about the session before hand, or if there was another area of interest you’d like us to cover in a future CPD session.
We’re also going to be running another session on the DSP in November. Sign up to our mailing list to get details about this as soon as they’re available.
