PRESENTED BY Neami
CPD CORE TOPIC Suicide prevention
Connect with CARE is Neami’s new in-house suicide prevention and intervention training package, made up of five key elements: Connect, Collaborate, Acknowledge, Reflect and Empower. Each element explores suicide prevention and intervention approaches in a manner that meets legal and ethical obligations whilst upholding recovery-oriented practice principles.
Upon successful completion of this session participants will be able to:
- Understand suicide and how perceptions and language promote recovery and build resilience.
- Understand how emotional intelligence supports staff to be responsive to consumers in times of need.
- Use coaching skills to explore suicide thoughts and feelings with consumers in a way that promotes decision making, autonomy and opportunities to cope.
- Understand the concept of suicidal ambivalence and importance of acknowledging suicidal distress.
- Recognise context, adversity and explore risk and protective factors through safety planning.
- Balance a respectful response to distress by upholding both legal and ethical considerations in alignment with the Collaborative Recovery Model (exploring Duty of Care and Dignity of Risk).
- Engage with a consumer and their informal and formal supports to understand, assess and respond to suicidal thoughts and feelings.
- Demonstrates capacity to identify and respond to warning signs that indicate suicide risk and vulnerability with consumers, leadership and other relevant stakeholders.
To satisfy your professional obligations - and to be awarded points for attendance - you are required to participate in the entire session. We thank you for your commitment to our Code of Ethics.
