Every year, FCVic runs a two-day, in-person Graduate Year Workshop – a key component of our modified Graduate Year series for newly qualified and early career financial counsellors, designed to support incoming financial counsellors in their first months or years of work.
This year, we ran the workshop on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 March and were supported in delivery by a variety of guest presenters. The in-person delivery format is crucial to supporting strong group discussions and keeps the focus on applying skills through activities and case studies across many subjects.
Our thanks to all presenters and attendees who joined us this year!
Feedback from our 2024 attendees
“I loved the whole workshop and found it valuable to network and connect with other new financial counsellors. The information covered was relevant and an important refresher from units covered in the Diploma.”
“Loved the case study and being able to follow along with what steps you can take in the different scenarios. It was great to chat with Kane and Bridget over lunch and gain more insight into some of the challenges we see.”
“Marie was fantastic and hearing first-hand how the bank deals with hardship was a great learning experience. I also enjoyed hearing the difference between hardship and maladministration.”
“Really appreciated Robyn’s reflection first thing on the second day. The motivational interviewing chart was also helpful and I will print this and use it as a reminder.”
“This is a fantastic training opportunity, and I would highly recommend any new financial counsellors to attend. I came away feeling renewed and connected with some wonderful people. Thank you for organising this training.”
“After this workshop, I will definitely be making changes to the way I practice. From the training I also will make sure that before each appointment I take time to ‘breathe’ and a few moments to relax.”
