ISP Update – Reviewing Centrelink’s Withholding of Lump Sums

When Centrelink withheld part of Amir’s arrears payment to recover an existing debt, he was left in severe financial hardship. Through the Integrated Services Project, a financial counsellor and social security lawyer worked together to have the full amount refunded and debt recovery paused. Amir’s story shows how financial counsellors can support clients when Centrelink withholds lump sums for debt repayment.
