As outlined in our April and May editions, FCVic is undertaking a Governance Review of its Constitution, as part of its ongoing commitment to strong, contemporary governance and to ensuring the organisation continues to work effectively for its members.
This review aligns closely with FCVic’s Strategic Plan 2025–2028, launched in October 2025, which emphasises organisational sustainability, clarity of purpose, and supporting members through strong, effective systems and structures.
The purpose of the Governance Review is to ensure that FCVic’s Constitution is:
- Contemporary and aligned with current law and good governance practice
- Comprehensible and accessible to members
- Practical and functional in supporting FCVic’s work and decision-making
The Governance Review is being led by the FCVic Board, with support from an external governance expert and FCVic staff, and is grounded in direct consultation with members.
Update on Consultations
We are consulting with members throughout the process, and updating key stakeholders on the progress of the review. Following our successful Governance Review Workshop in May 2026, a Constitution Review Committee was formed with a number of experienced financial counsellors, Board members, and FCVic’s Chief Executive Officer, to revise and provide feedback on the draft Constitution prepared by our external governance expert, Geoff Carter.
The Constitution Review Committee has reviewed the draft Constitution in detail, and provided invaluable feedback and insights into how it should be shaped to best support FCVic members and good governance. Alongside the Committee’s work, we have provided regular communications to all FCVic members about the key themes and approaches in the draft Constitution.
FCVic wants to ensure all members’ voices are heard during this Governance Review. On two key questions, including how the Chair of the FCVic Board should be selected, we sought direct feedback through a poll of all members in early July. The results of the poll have been incorporated into the revised draft Constitution.
As for next steps, we are pleased that the revised draft Constitution is almost ready to share with all FCVic members for a final round of feedback, before members vote on it at FCVic’s Annual General Meeting at our Conference in October.
Please contact FCVic via [email protected] if you have any questions or would like to learn more or provide feedback on the Governance Review.
