This e-Learning module will help you plan and prepare for an outreach session. It has been designed to be both learning tool and reference material, and accompanies the various outreach channels that have been developed as part of FCVic’s Libraries Outreach, Mental Health, Carers and Older Victorians projects.
After the very successful delivery of Scams training run by Consumer Action and Scamwatch in February 2023, we are continuing to explore the issue using case studies designed around different types of scams.
What are our intrinsic motivators for working in a helping profession and how can these sometimes work against good self-care? During this session, Robyn has shared the ways you can improve your own well-being and strategies to sustain yourself within a caring profession in the long run. Robyn has focused on a strength-based approach and has provided an opportunity to get familiar with the Virtue in Action (VIA) Framework allowing everyone to identify your own strengths and how to apply those to your professional and personal life.
This session was designed for FCs currently working in Disaster Recovery or with an interest in learning more about community leadership and mobilisation in disaster recovery efforts. The presentation included interactive activities, where attendees have the opportunity to ask questions and get hands on, applying community development, disaster recovery and public health concepts to real life examples and consider how these may apply to experiences in their own practice.
This session was a refresher for Financial Counsellors with all levels of casework experience. CALC presenters have run some practical exercises in identifying issues embedded in a complex case study. There was extensive and interactive discussion about the variety of approaches to dealing with bread-and-butter financial counselling work in Consumer Law, Credit Law and Debt Enforcement.
The gambling of a person can have an immense impact on the life and well-being of family members. This session has looked at the psychological impact on affected others and discussed how you as a financial counsellor can best support affected others. What is effective engagement and what are appropriate referrals? How can we best advocate for affected others?
Separation is one of the most challenging times in people’s life’s. The session was focused on supporting clients who are separating from their partners. The presenter has provided an overview of the family law system and continues with a particular focus on property settlement and the intersection of credit law and family law.
Mortgage stress is an ongoing issue which the sector continues to see. Beyond mortgage stress, there is a point when your clients are facing foreclosure on their homes. This training session has covered these situations, what to expect in terms of processes, how Consumer Action approaches this and managing your client’s expectations.
In this session, the presenter has focused on the age pension and health care card including how they interlink. We have also explored how superannuation and the age pension affect each other.
