- 1-2 hrs
- 1 CPD points
- Skills
In this session recording you will find the boundaries of AFCA’s jurisdiction, especially in the Consumer Credit context, including debt management and credit repair cases. One of the questions we are seeking to answer is: Will AFCA accept complaints about members that provide debt management services, where the underlying debt / default / listing was non-credit? More broadly we will cover:
– What is inside and what is outside of AFCA’s jurisdiction
– Where do you go for a resolution for matters that don’t fall within this jurisdiction
– How do AFCA’s rules get applied?
– Is there any advocacy that could happen around this?

Family Violence and Our Social Security System
- 2-3 hrs
- 1 CPD points
- Technical
The distress that victim survivors of family violence experience can be exacerbated by complex and lengthy interactions with Centrelink when pursuing the recovery of debt that was itself wholly or partly attributable to the violence. Similarly, it can be distressing when Centrelink treats people experiencing family violence as being a member of a couple with the perpetrator of the violence.
In this session recording presenter has provided information about how our social security system addresses family violence issues, the common challenges people face when raising family violence issues within our social security system, and how the system itself may be used as a tool for people to perpetrate economic family violence.
This session has also addressed the avenues people can pursue when they do not agree with a Centrelink decision – including appeals – and what help is available for clients and community workers.
