Consumer Action Law Centre has conducted a refresher for financial counsellors on how to use the National Consumer Credit Protection Act. This session was used a ‘ready reckoner’ format, where the discussion has highlighted the most valuable sections of the Act. Lisa used case-studies to explain and apply the law. Basic knowledge of Credit Law will be assumed.

Changes to the Residential Tenancies Act and its protections for FC clients

The new Residential Tenancies Regulations came into effect on 29 March 2021. Tenants Victoria has provided a tailored session for financial counsellors to look at what has changed and in particular, what new protections are offered for our clients.
The training has cover notices to vacate, rent arrears and arrangements to repay, as well as repairs and mould.

Payday loans and consumer leases PD session was focused on strategies FCs can use to get good outcomes for clients with consumer leases or payday loans, using case studies. The aim if this session is to get inside the business model of payday lenders and explore how to use this knowledge to achieve better outcomes for clients impacted by small amount credit contracts. The first half of the session was focused on payday loans and the second half on consumer leases.
