The Gender, Disaster and Financial Wellbeing e-Learning is a self-paced, online course that focuses on providing an increased awareness of barriers to economic security for women before, during and after disaster, and what workers can do to address these barriers in gender sensitive, strengths-based and trauma-informed ways.
This e-learning has been redeveloped from a two-part, live training course created by WIRE as part of the Gender, Disaster and Financial Wellbeing Project funded by the Victorian Government, and delivered to Victorian financial counsellors and financial capability workers throughout 2021 and 2022.
Learning objectives:
While completing the e-Learning, learners will:
- Learn about intersectionality and how the manifestation of power systems is increased by disaster events
- Understand the key aspects of providing strengths-based, gender-informed and trauma-informed practice through financial counselling for people affected by disaster
- Understand how to integrate intersectionality into your practice when a client is affected by disaster
- Learn how to identify the barriers to accessing support for people affected by disaster, and how to improve accessibility
- Learn about the risks of vicarious trauma and burnout for professionals, and how to mitigate those risks
