Mentoring in the Workplace
- Skills
Mentoring is a key factor in the Financial Counselling industry, adding to the success of students and recent graduates being integrated well into the sector. While the use of the word “mentor” is common, the process of mentoring requires some special skills, ensuring that mentoring is not confused with coaching, training or supervision in the workplace.
This workshop was delivered in two parts, allowing the participants to test their skills in between, with a requirement of some reading and practice. The content has been very useful for current mentors and Financial Counsellors who would like to mentor into the future, and requires that the participants be experienced Financial Counsellors and have more than 3 years plus experience in the industry.
The Mentoring course offer participants the opportunity to review their mentor role and be the kind of mentor they want to be; setting up the mentor and mentee relationship; planning around mentoring processes and adult education principles.
